Aims and objectives
The aim of the Course is to provide travel medicine practitioners an opportunity to confirm their qualifications. We hope to increase the delegates’ confidence of practice particularly by using assignments and interactice tutorial groups as tools.
The delegates will acquire a basic understanding on:
- how to assess risks for traveller’s diseases and health problems
- details of the preventive measures available
- how to encourage risk awareness and personal protection of the traveller
- the geographical distribution and the epidemiology of infectious diseases
The Foundation Course starts with two residential days, and continues as distant learning for 4-5 months. Delegates must make four assignments in this periode.
RESIDENTIAL DAYS ARE A COMPULSORY REQUIREMENT OF THE COURSE.
ALL LECTURES, CURRICULUM AND ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE.
Assignments and support
All delegates must undertake four assignments. Each assignment is based on items from the residential course. All delegates have a personal advisor and access to the e-learning website from RCPSG, TRAVAX (the NHS travel health website) and e-library. Delegates will also have access to communication forum with other delegates.
The fee for the Foundation Course in 2013 was set till € 1.300.
Travel and accommodation during residential days is not included. We will be delighted to help with suggestions for accommodations.
Delegates require a basic knowledge of using a PC/Mac, Microsoft word and email.
Delegates must have access to the following: Internet connection, preferable broadband, but 56K dial-up modem is possible; Internet Explorer Version 6 or higher; Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 7.
